We are so excited to reveal our Downtown Orange County kitchen and laundry room remodel. This kitchen and laundry room were designed with thanksgiving meals, dirt-covered toddlers, and a laughter-filled home in mind. We are in love with the functionality, warm tones, and European feel of this remodel.

Due to this project being a 100-year-old craftsman house, it came with many unforeseen challenges. To finish the story, Joey styled with orginal vintage items and organic textures. Our team worked hard to create and execute an original, inviting, and functional design.

We loved the character of these original doors and did not want to lose them. We wanted to keep many original features such as these inset doors; unfortunately, we had to remove an inset iron board cabinet, to accommodate a more modern and updated design that was also useful.

Due to it being 100 years old, one of the biggest challenges with this home was that the unlevel foundation. This home had its original lath and plaster (a style of building homes that pre-dates back from the 1940s). During the demo, we were forced to replace the existing walls with updated drywall. Every step of the way we had a new surprise.

We customized all the kitchen and laundry cabinets and windows – this way it could sit level in the home. We put in single-hanging windows with the original weights to keep the historic craftsmen feel.

We originally created the design to contain white oak for all of the wooden features. As we continued through this project, we switched to a warmer/honey oak finish for the beams, cabinets, and floors. The carpenter designed a complete wooden range to incorporate character and add a warm touch. We are so glad he did because we ended up keeping it!

We had little room to work with inside the laundry room area. The idea was to combine functionality with simplicity. The bulky overhead cabinets were removed which opened the space. On the opposite wall, a small pantry was added, with a sliding barn door. Custom cabinetry was created for much-needed storage, as well as a place to fold clothes.

Joey was very intent to complete the story with her styling. She chose each decor piece intentionally designed for hosting friends and family. The dream was to create an open space that brought game nights, Saturday morning pancakes, and everyday cooking to life!
